Bronze

Bronze was the first material I worked in, and as much as I loved it, I likely will not return to this process. It is by far the most laborious, with many steps involved in the ancient  “lost wax”  method. It is a very different way of working, opposite the subtractive method of sculpting a stone, because you are actually adding to and building up the initial form of the sculpture in wax, its’s first stage. The process is very complex and takes many, many hours of labor including help from expert craftsmen, creating the mold, pouring molten metal, through the finishing steps of polishing and buffing to achieve the desired patina.

This process actually dates back over 6000 years and was used by the ancient artisans in Egypt among other civilizations. There are only a few of my older pieces still available for sale.
