My sculptures explore the transformative power of form. I work with the unique qualities of each stone - its properties of roughness, color and texture, and contrast those with the finished, polished, emerging shape. What interests me is the movement from raw, archaic, and primitive, towards coherence, harmony, wholeness, and from the unfinished, the unnamed, towards the visible and known.

In the stone work, I use a combination of power and hand tools, preferring to finish each piece by hand.  The polishing process is a slow and meditative aspect of the work. That final step completed through touching the stone directly is important to me, as it completes the process with the stone.

Most of the material I work with comes from a stone yard in Ventura called Art City. They import high-quality marble and alabaster from all over the world in a variety of lovely colors. I plan to shop around for white Carrara marble blocks for a new stone sculpture series I am envisioning that is emerging out of my COVID-19 isolation.

All work is available for sale unless otherwise noted. I also do commissions, so please inquire if something marked “sold” resonates with you. I can likely create something in a similar vein. Although I have created works up to 4 “ in height, most pieces are scaled for table or desktop. Keep in mind that some sculptural pieces may take up to a year to create.
